The Sweetwater Community Center traces its roots back to the early 20th century, when the building first served as a local schoolhouse for area children. As educational needs changed and schools consolidated, the site was preserved and later repurposed to serve the broader community. Through the years, the center has been maintained and improved thanks to the dedication of local citizens and county support, ensuring it continues to meet the evolving needs of residents.

Today, the Sweetwater Community Center, managed by the Edgefield County Recreation Department, hosts a variety of community events, private gatherings, and recreation programs. Its rich history and continued use reflect the pride and togetherness of the Sweetwater community — a testament to the area’s commitment to preserving its past while providing opportunities for future generations.
